Philadelphia Global House Parties

 March 1, 2011
Celebrating 50 years of Peace Corps
In Center City at the Home of Stuart Jablon hosting 15 people:
Fifteen ex-Peace Corps volunteers and their family members attended the Open House at the Jablon's home in Center City.  Paula baked a fantastic cake which Jim decorated with a perfect replica of the Peace Corps 50th anniversary logo.  The party turned into a mini-PCV Jamaica reunion as Mark Barath, Albert Wellstein, Joe Trovato and Stuart Jablon were in attendance.  Stuart and Joe presented slide shows from their experiences in Jamaica that were well enjoyed by all.  Two recently returned volunteers, Charlotte (Guatemala) and Jim (Peru) were also in attendance.

In Ardmore at the home of Meg Baker hosting 18 people:

From Ann Hearn in Southern Jersey: On March 1, 2011 my husband and I hosted a Global House Party to celcbrate 50 years of Peace Corps. About 20 guests came from the South Jersey area. They had served in Afganistan,Benin,Bolivia. Brazil, Iran, Nicaragua,Micronesia,Thailand, Turkey(me) and several other countries. We had delicious for at our " Pot Luck". The conversation was interesting with bonding in our common experiences. Most of the guests were people I had not meet at Philadelphia PC gatherings but look forward to seeing again. Photos will follow. Ann Loughran Hearn

From the Delaware Valley at Peggy Smith's Home in Newark, hosting 20 people:

From Berks County RPCVS gathering at a local restaurant with 17 attendees:

We had one mother whose daughter is currently serving in Azerbaijan. The daughter Jessica saw our event on a website and asked her mother to attend. Interestingly, the mother is from the Dominican Republic so she had a good time speaking with the volunteers who served in the Caribbean or Central America. Two grandparents came representing their granddaughter currently serving.  And a father came to represent his son Joshua Robinson who is due to serve in Jamaica in June.

In the photo: Mayra Alcantara mother of current volunteer, Rick Summons served in El Salvador , Ashely Membreno served in Nicaragua and married son of her host family.
